Personality: Narcissistic may seem like an odd way to describe a horse but in all honesty there is no better word that fits this daring son of Soaring Passion. Tough, bold, and narcissistic - He could care less about every other horse out there because in his mind, he's really the only one people need to worry about. Superior and self entitled, Ferdinand has this mind set where he's simply too good to be bothered other horses or his handlers for that matter. Unless another horse were to literally slam into him, he acts as if they do not exist. Fair warning - don't slam into him or cross him. When this horse gets pissed off, he is 17.2hh of fiery rage and there's no containing a beast like him if he doesn't want to be. You can tell this horse believes he is the best of the best by the way he parades around the track, head high and eyes piercing in a snob-like manner. And while he is entirely too full of himself, his physical appearance alone gives him a reason to be this smug. To put it simply, Ferdinand shares a striking resemblance to those old racehorse photographs from the early 1900s - tall, refined, and elegant, Ferdinand is covered head to toe with a rich bay coat that reflects over each muscle. His frame is perfectly proportioned and his eyes are intelligent and daring. Ferdinand is the text book definition of "tall dark and handsome." On the track, Ferdinand is tough as nails. Very rarely does he back down from a fight and he will fight teeth and nails to prove he is the best. Even if he gets injured he refuses to back down and will fight through anything, which may be his fatal flaw. Ferdinand comes from an interesting pairing - the first son of Soaring Passion, a lightly raced HOTY winner who is out of super mare, HOF Born To Soar. His dam Red Admiral is already a proven dam, producing 2020 Breeder's Cup winner Hecate. While he definitely has the bloodlines, time will tell if Ferdinand's race record lives up to his high and mighty mindset.
Grade 5
9-12 furlongs Turf [Good] Dirt [Great] Race Results: 3 | 1-1-0 | 75% Running Style: Versatile On the track, Ferdinand is just about as independent on the track as he is off the track. He does his own thing and doesn't concern himself with the other horses on race day. His one requirement is he that he prefers to be alone wherever he settles, hence why he will usually find a spot in the front or on the very rear. His jockey really has little to no say on where he settles in the pack as it's pretty difficult to force a 17.2hh beast into a position he doesn't want to be in. Ferdinand takes the race at his own leisure, he knows he's the best so he doesn't worry himself with trying to catch up to the leader and isn't bothered by other horses trying to push the pace. He's extremely stoic on race day and refuses to be pushed around. It's not until they round the final turn that his superiority rises up in him. Like a flame catching fire, Ferdinand ignites on the home stretch and will go from zero to hundred just like that. His massive strides move him twice as far as his competition and his gritty, tough as nails attitude causes him to refuse to back down until he knows he's passed that wire. WORKOUTS
